This man had his hand out to receive alms from Peter and John. By doing so, he acknowledged that Peter and John were potential resources to bless him. However, this man was positioned to receive. But he wasn’t postured to receive. Peter and John told the man “Look at us!”. After which, the lame man “began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them”.
How often are we this way with God? We have our hands out, but don’t give Him any attention. How many of us want something from God without giving real effort to center our hearts, mind and devotion towards Him?
Are you positioned to receive from God? You have a great need. You have hard circumstances. You’re troubled in every side. You’re needy in some way.
Now… Are you postured to receive from God? Do you want the presents/gifts? Or do you want His presence? Do want Him? Or do you just want what He has to offer?
What are you paying attention to when you come to God asking for anything?
His face or just His hand? Are you looking at/to God? Or do you just want him to look at you?
God wants to bless you. But He wants you to understand that the biggest blessing is Him! It’s good to expect to receive from God. But are you paying attention to Him? The reality is, we’re all beggars because we’re all needy. But are we worshippers?
Acts 3:2-5
2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;
3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.
4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.”
5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
